The Mahjong of Business and Life

I always play a few rounds of Mahjong in the morning just to warm my brain up and keep it sharp.  That’s important for an older guy like me!  Mahjong is a matching game.  Sometimes the whole game goes very smoothly, and the tiles match up easily.  Sometimes it’s downright difficult, and it takes a lot of time to figure out how to solve the puzzle.  And occasionally, there is no solution, and you lose the game.

It occurred to me this morning, as I was playing one of the more difficult games and it was taking a long time to find the matching tiles, that the solution was always right there in front of me.  It was just taking time for me to see it.  Even when a solution can’t be reached, that fact is right there in front of me.  It’s just taking time for me to see it.

The same thing is true in your business and your life. Whether the times, the economy, the business climate, the politics, and the buying trends are easy, difficult, or unsolvable, the answers are right there in front of you!  It may just take some time to see them.

Especially right now, in this time of the COVID scare, business planning and execution has grown substantially more difficult, and you may be feeling frustrated or discouraged.  The answers, solutions, and directions for which you’re searching may seem non-existent, that is until you see what was right in front of you all the time.

So, take time in your day every day to think, to strategize, to plan, and to look for the answers, for the directions in which you want to take your business and your life.  You’ll see the answers you need.  And even if your situation is unsolvable, you’ll find a new game, a new plan, and a new direction.
