So, you want to be a rock star?

The Byrds (1960’s rock and roll band…for you younger generation folks) wrote and recorded the first version of So You Want to Be a Rock ‘n’ Roll Star.  The message in the song is that you just have to “get a guitar and learn how to play”, get a record deal, get in the charts, and “the girls will tear you apart”.  Of course, The Byrds were being satirical.  There’s an old saying that, “They became an overnight sensation…after paying dues for 20 years.”  The Beatles spent years playing in clubs in Germany, sometimes for 8 or 9 hours a day, perfecting their sound, before they found stardom.

So, if you want to become a chiropractic rock ‘n’ roll star and have a huge practice with huge revenue, you have to pay some dues. And it likely won’t take you 20 years to succeed! You have to invest time and money in:

  • Your education. And more than your chiropractic school education. Continuing ed in your profession is an absolute necessity if you want to be an exceptional doctor. How much time and money are you willing to invest in seminars, books, and recordings to continually educate yourself?

  • Technology. More and more cutting-edge equipment for testing has been and is being updated constantly. How up-to-date is your technology?

  • A support team. There comes a point in your practice where you can’t do everything yourself. You need a team of enthusiastic, dedicated people to take care of office operations, marketing, sales and much more. What does your team look like at present?

  • Mentoring and coaching. There are chiropractors who have achieved the level of success to which you aspire. There are coaches in practice management, employee management, office procedures, marketing, sales, and much more. They’re willing to help you do what they’ve done or educate you in various areas where you need to excel to succeed, if you’re willing to make the investment in time, energy and money to take advantage of their services.

So, the biggest question is, how willing are you to make the investment required to create the practice of your dreams?  If you aren’t willing, then be satisfied with whatever you’re able to achieve by yourself, without complaint.  If you are willing, the sky’s the limit.
